Netflix takes the cake this week with its spate of new and exciting announcements. We’ve got an upcoming film starring Benedict Cumberbatch in a wicked avatar, Melissa McCarthy graces an emotional drama, a documentary gives a look at rare footage of champion racer Michael Schumacher, and more. The Power of the Dog

Benedict Cumberbatch is a rancher in this upcoming Netflix western. He’s charismatic but also inspires fear. When his brother brings home a new wife (Kirsten Dunst), he torments them until he finds himself exposed to love.


Schumacher

Who doesn’t want to see a documentary about Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher? Featuring rare interviews and never-before-seen footage, the film traces a very personal portrait of the seven-time world champion. It’s also apparently the only movie supported by Schumacher’s family.

Intrusion

Starring Freida Pinto and Logan Marshall-green, this Netflix thriller tells the story of a home invasion that leaves a small-town couple traumatized and suspicious of people around them. The trailer is not very telling of what we can expect. Guess we’ll have to wait and watch how the secrets unfold.


The Starling

Melissa McCarthy takes the lead in this Netflix drama. While grieving the loss of a child, a battle with a territorial bird (The Starling) over the dominion of her garden proves to be an unlikely road to recovery and gives her the courage to heal her relationships.


Maid

This upcoming Netflix movie is based on a New York Times best-selling memoir about the life of a woman who works as a housemaid. The film chronicles her struggles with low pay and motherhood as she makes ends meet somehow in order to survive.


Welcome to the Blumhouse 2021

Four new movies from Blumhouse are headed to Amazon Prime Video with chilling twists. The new set of films will be centered around institutional horrors and personal phobias. The first two features will release on October 1 and two more will follow on October 8.
